Get your free estimateTrane Mini-Split Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
A Trane mini-split installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 to $7,500 for a complete system, depending on the number of indoor units and the complexity of the mounting location. We stock Trane-compatible parts on our trucks and can often have a failed component diagnosed and swapped the same day we arrive. Most San Antonio homeowners discover a problem the hard way: the unit runs but doesn’t cool, or it makes a sound that wasn’t there last summer, or the indoor head has started leaking water onto the floor.
What matters right now is matching the right part to your exact Trane model, pricing it honestly, and getting your house comfortable again without a runaround. That’s the page you’re on.
Which Trane Models This Applies To
Meadowsweet Heating and Air San Antonio works on the full Trane mini-split lineup, including the Trane XT and MX series, along with Trane multi-zone systems that run two to five indoor heads off one outdoor condenser. Most Trane mini-splits sold for San Antonio homes are in the 9,000 to 36,000 BTU range, with the 12,000 and 18,000 BTU single-zone units being the ones we see most often in Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills, and houses near the Pearl District.
The fastest way to identify the right part is the model number printed on the side of the outdoor unit and on a sticker inside the indoor head’s front cover. Trane uses a letter-and-number sequence that tells you the series, capacity, and voltage. When we get that from you over the phone, we can usually confirm compatibility before a technician ever rolls a truck. One thing to know: Trane’s mini-split manufacturer is different from their traditional split-system supply chain, so a part labeled for a Trane XV18 central air handler will not work on a mini-split, even though both say Trane. We stock OEM Trane parts and a small set of aftermarket equivalents we have tested in Texas heat. We will tell you which one we are quoting and why, before any work starts.
We are an independent service provider, not a Trane factory dealer. That means we order from the same parts channels and stand behind the work with our own 365-Day Done Right Promise.

Signs Your Trane Mini-Split Installation Is Failing
- Indoor head is blowing warm air while the outdoor unit runs. This is often low refrigerant from a slow leak at a flare connection, which is the most common failure point on mini-split installs done in a hurry. The fix is finding the leak, repairing the flare, and recharging to the exact factory spec.
- Water dripping from the indoor unit onto your floor. The condensate drain line can clog with San Antonio dust and lint, or the small condensate pump inside the head can fail. A clogged line backs water up and it runs down the wall, straight onto your floors.
- Outdoor unit is louder than it used to be, or rattles. The compressor mounts wear out, and mini-split compressors in Texas run hard from May through September. A loose mount or a failing compressor both start as a sound you notice at night.
- One zone cools but another doesn’t. On multi-zone Trane systems, this points to a failing expansion valve in one indoor head or an electronic control board that stopped talking to the condenser. It is rarely a refrigerant problem when the other heads are working normally.
- Unit short-cycles: kicks on for 90 seconds, shuts off, kicks back on. This is usually a bad thermistor or a failing control board, not a refrigerant issue. It wastes power and beats on the compressor, so it is worth addressing within the week in a San Antonio summer.

Here is the honest price picture for Trane mini-split work in San Antonio, based on what we write up on the job form before anything gets repaired:
- Full single-zone Trane mini-split installation: $3,500 to $5,500 installed, depending on line-set length and electrical work
- Multi-zone system with 2 or 3 indoor heads: $5,500 to $7,500 installed
- Compressor or outdoor board replacement on an existing unit: usually $150 to $650 in parts and labor depending on the model
- Indoor control board, thermistor, or condensate pump: typically $150 to $450 installed
- Refrigerant leak repair with recharge: $300 to $650, depending on the leak location and how much R-410A the system needs
The wide range on full installations reflects San Antonio realities: wall-mount heads go in quickly, but a ceiling cassette or a condenser that has to sit on a roof bracket takes longer and costs more. Every quote includes the written price before work starts, the parts, the labor, the refrigerant charge, the line-set cover, and cleanup. We leave shoe covers on, drop cloths under the work area, and send a photo of how the space looked after we cleaned it, before the crew pulls away.
Every part we install carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the part fails or the work isn’t right within a year, we make it right. No fine print, no phone tag.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things a homeowner can safely check before calling. First, look at the indoor head’s filter and wash it if it’s caked with San Antonio dust, a dirty filter alone can cause weak airflow and dripping. Second, look at the outdoor unit and confirm nothing is blocking the coil, like a mesquite branch or a pile of leaves.
Beyond that, we recommend stopping. A mini-split carries high-voltage wiring at the disconnect, and the refrigerant side is under pressure that can cause serious frostbite burns if a line is opened without proper recovery equipment. Trane mini-splits also use flare fittings that leak if they are not torqued correctly, and an overtightened flare is the leading cause of the leaks we repair in San Antonio homes. If you have a failed part and want it matched to your exact model, call Luis and the team at (254) 271-2545 and we will talk through what the house is doing before we schedule anything.
FAQs
A properly installed Trane mini-split should last 12 to 15 years in the San Antonio climate, though the compressor tends to work harder here than in northern states because our cooling season runs March through November. Your part replacement, whether it’s a board or a fan motor, usually gives you 8 to 12 more years of life when the underlying install was done right. Call (254) 271-2545 if you want us to check whether the rest of the system is worth putting a new part into.
Sometimes yes. A leaking flare fitting can be re-torqued or re-flared, a clogged drain line can be cleared, and a failed capacitor is a quick swap. But a burned control board, a seized fan motor, or a compressor that has shorted to ground will need replacement, not repair. We only recommend a part replacement when repairing the old one would not be reliable through a Texas summer, and we will show you the failed part before we install the new one. Call us for an honest read on your exact unit.
Most single-part swaps, like an indoor control board or a fan motor, take 60 to 90 minutes on site once the part is in hand. A compressor replacement on the outdoor unit takes most of a day. We keep common Trane mini-split parts on the truck, and for parts we have to order, San Antonio supply houses usually get us the part within one to two business days.
We stock both, and we tell you which one is being quoted and why. Genuine Trane parts carry the Trane warranty and match your unit exactly. The aftermarket equivalents we carry are ones we have used in San Antonio homes long enough to trust, and they often cost less. Either way, the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. Call (254) 271-2545 for a free estimate and a straight answer on what your model actually needs.
